Since the metabolism is extremely fast in children, the resulting waste products can often cause bad breath. In babies and children, the distance between the stomach and the esophagus is too short, which can cause reflux and often cause bad breath. There is almost no child under the age of 6 who does not have bad breath. Bad breath decreases with age.

Some of the conditions that cause bad breath in children include:

Hunger

Children, like adults, experience bad breath when they are hungry for more than a certain period of time.

Postnasal drip

It is the most common cause of bad breath in children and can be caused by allergies, recurring colds, and chronic sinus infections.

Inadequate oral and dental care

It is one of the main reasons that come to mind in children with bad breath. Tooth decay, inflammation of the gums, or food particles stuck between the teeth or in the tonsils cause bad breath.

Foreign body in nose

If a small foreign object remains in the child’s nose, it often causes inflammation and odor. A green discharge from only one of the nostrils may indicate this condition. In most other infections, nasal discharge occurs in both nostrils.

Teething

Bad breath increases in babies and children during teething periods.

mouth breathing

Allergies or enlarged adenoids can also cause mouth breathing and bad breath. Mouth breathing causes the mouth to dry out and saliva cannot function to wash bacteria in the mouth. Some medications used can also cause dry mouth and cause bad odor.

Gastritis, ulcer

Gastritis and ulcers, which can also be seen in children, can cause bad breath.
