Acne (Acne Vulgaris)

Acne is a disease that is accompanied by clogged pores (black and white dots), red blisters, inflamed blisters and cysts in the deep layers of the skin. The disease can usually be seen on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and even in the upper area of the arms. A lot of people have acne during adolescence. However, acne can be seen up to the age of 20, even up to the age of forty. Acne goes away without treatment in a few years, but there is no need to go untreated during this process. Also, untreated acne can leave scars.
Although acne is not a life-threatening disease, it has a negative psychological effect on the patient. In addition, acne can leave serious and permanent scars.

How does acne occur?
In men and women, the male hormone increases during the adolescent period, stimulates the sebaceous glands and causes them to grow.Acne is often seen in areas such as the face, back and chest, where the sebaceous glands are frequent. Rarely, acne can be seen together with hormonal disorders.

The sebaceous glands are located in a channel that also contains the hair, which we call the follicle. The sebaceous glands secrete an oily substance called sebum, which moves along the canal and is excreted through the pores on the skin surface. The place where the sebaceous gland duct opens to the skin is called por. The oil secreted from the canal and the dead skin cells excreted from the canal again combine to clog the skin pores. Thus, bacteria grow easily in this channel. The chemical substances produced by these bacteria stimulate an inflammatory reaction in the sebaceous gland and thus the wall of the canal cracks. The distribution of sebum, bacteria and dead cells in the skin causes redness, swelling and an inflammatory reaction.

Cleaning

Blackheads on the skin develop as a result of plugs formed by fat and dead cells where fat follicles open to the skin, and blackheads have nothing to do with dirt. For normal skin care, the skin needs to be washed twice with soap. Acne is not caused by dirt. Washing the skin too often and violently causes acne to worsen.

Diet

Acne is not caused by the foods we eat. Acne is a disease that can heal or worsen on its own, regardless of food. A diet alone is not enough to control acne. But if you have identified foods that increase your acne, you should stay away from these foods. As with everyone, a balanced diet is recommended for patients with acne.

Sun

Tanning suppresses acne, but this condition is temporary. Since the sun causes premature skin aging and cancer, it is not recommended to burn in the sun and in the solarium. For this reason, patients with acne should use sunscreens in the style of oil-free gel or lotion while under the sun.

Cosmetics

If you are using a moisturizer or foundation, make sure that this product is oil-free water-based. Use products with the phrase note-comedogenic( does not cause blackheads) or non-acnegenic on them. Clean your makeup every night with soap and water. Lotions containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and sulfur can be used safely. Oil-free products without powder can be used as concealers. The facial area should be protected when applying hairspray or gels.

Treatment

Acne takes a long time to control. All acne treatments provide protection from acne.Pimples that come out heal on their own. This recovery takes time. If your acne does not improve in 6-8 weeks, the treatment should be changed. The treatment preferred by your dermatologist depends on the type and severity of your acne. Occasionally, an acne-like rash may develop due to makeup Decals, lotions, or oral medications. You should inform your Dermatologist about the treatments that you apply to your skin or use by mouth.

Your Dermatologist may prescribe creams, gels, and lotions that contain vitamin A and benzole peroxide, which unclog the sebaceous glands and prevent bacterial growth. These products lead to drying and peeling on the skin. A dermatologist will provide you with the necessary information to properly use these products and protect yourself from their side effects.
Antibiotics can be applied to the skin in the treatment of acne. These products are used for more severe cases of acne. If there are painful masses under the skin that we call cysts, your dermatologist can give cortisone injections to these cysts. Your doctor can empty the inside of your acne and clear your black and white spots. Do not blow or squeeze your pimples by yourself. When pimples are squeezed, they become redder and more swollen and leave scars.

Antibiotics containing tetracycline, doxycycline and erythromycin by mouth are often used in patients with moderate or severe acne, especially those with a large number of acne on the back and chest area. Antibiotics directly reduce the number of bacteria in the sebaceous gland and redness on the skin.
