Scoop ear deformity most often occurs for genetic reasons. Rarely, our patients also think that it occurs because their ears curl and lie on them in this way when they are babies, but essentially, the genetic factor is also essential for them. Especially during primary school and adolescence, this situation leads to very serious problems. The psychological trauma that occurs negatively affects the success of the school and the socialization of the individual. The best way to prevent these problems is to eliminate the problem as soon as possible.

How is The Operation Performed?
Classical technique otoplasty surgery is performed under local anesthesia. The only exceptions to this are patients who are younger and patients who think that they cannot tolerate local anesthesia. With these two exceptions, it can be done easily with local anesthesia. During the operation, local anesthesia is applied from behind the ear.

Otoplasty surgery with classical technique takes 1 hour. During surgery, the incision is made behind the ear. Cartilage is shaped by sight and it is ensured that they remain in the desired aesthetically correct position with high-quality suture materials. Thanks to the refined and different techniques applied during otoplasty surgery, the ear folds have a natural shape to the extent of perfection. The incision behind the ear is closed with self-melting suture materials in the form of aesthetic hidden sutures. Therefore, stitches do not need to be removed after surgery.

Is Otoplasty Surgery a Risky Operation?
The degree of risk in ear aesthetic surgeries is very, very low. However, as with any surgery, there are potential risk factors after otoplasty operations. Infection, bleeding and hematoma are the first potential risks that come to mind. Although we have not encountered these problems so far, we also tell our patients about the risks of surgery in principle.

How Long is the Surgery Permanent Is There a Risk of Deterioration?
Classical technique otoplasty surgery is a very reliable operation. However, in terms of general information, it is necessary to clarify the recurrence or deterioration situation. small openings such as 2 mm or 3 mm can be 1-2%. While this does not even pose a problem in some patients, a small revision can be planned for this rarely occurring condition.

When Is It Appropriate to Have a Scoop Ear Surgery?
The development of the auricle is completed quite early at the age of 6. Therefore, this surgery can be performed at any age from the age of 6. Performing the surgery in the preschool period has obvious benefits, especially in the form of preventing possible traumas that the patient may receive from a psychological point of view. Sometimes patients get the wrong idea in the wrong way as “I didn’t have this surgery at the age of 6, I can’t be more”. Our recommendation, and of course the most correct, is that this surgery is performed during the preschool period. But after the event was not done, they can have this surgery at any time of their lives, that is, at any age.

Is There Pain After Scoop Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)?
Although the probability of pain or minimal pain after otoplasty surgery varies depending on the surgical interventions to be performed in the operation, there will be no pain at all, and it may only be in the form of mild pain on the first day. We routinely prescribe antibiotics and painkillers to our patients after otoplasty surgery, which significantly increases the comfort of my patients after surgery.

When Will I Return to Normal Life?
When returning to normal life (social life or work life), there are minimal differences between male and female patients. Since the hairband is also used as an accessory for women, female patients continue their normal lives immediately after surgery as if nothing had happened. On the other hand, men may have minimal social problems because there is not much hairband use, but still, if we compare it with the classic bandage application, they have always expressed to me that they are very satisfied with their condition.

Will there be any Scars after Bucket Ear Surgery ?
When you remove the hairband and the first dressing is done, you will see your ears edematous and reddened. Definitely don’t let this scare you. The edema will pass within 5-7 days on average. Redness, on the other hand, will not even attract attention in society. You will be aware of this redness because you know that you have had surgery.

My patients ask the question whether there will be a mark behind the ear. We can answer this question by saying no clearly. Both we hide the incision by making it behind the ear and we prevent this possible problem by closing it with aesthetic hidden stitches.
